Oscar the Grouch is a Muppet character residing on Sesame Street, a long-running children's television program. He is known for his perpetually negative attitude and love of all things trashy and unpleasant.
Oscar made his first appearance on Sesame Street in its inaugural episode on November 10, 1969. He lives in a trash can on the street, and finds joy in things that most people would find disagreeable.
Over the decades, Oscar has been portrayed by various puppeteers, most notably Caroll Spinney, who also performed Big Bird. Eric Jacobson is the current performer of the character following Spinney's retirement.
